C-SPAN

We have a pet rabbit named Sumi that is pretty freaked out by cooking smells, especially those involving meat.  I naturally assumed today when I microwaved hot dogs that he ran and hid because of this.

However, once I changed channels from C-SPAN to something else, he was back out almost instantaneously.  Normally it takes some time for him to return from his plastic igloo after we’ve been preparing food, longer than that which had passed.

My gut instinct led me to believe something else was afoot, so I employed a casual, non-scientific test to determine what this might be.  The first thing I did was change my television’s channel back to C-SPAN.  My wife and I watched our rabbit’s face as he perked up, listened a little, and then cautiously entered the plastic igloo as before.  After changing the channel away from C-SPAN again, he came back out, without pause, and was relaxed once again.

During the first time I had C-SPAN on, Senator Russ Feingold was giving a speech about healthcare.  I feared that perhaps Sumi was a Republican, or simply did not care for the senator.  This fear was soon discarded when he gave Sen. Judd Gregg, a Republican, the same treatment.  I can only surmise that rabbits are naturally apolitical or have been persecuted far too long in this country to trust either political party to create a safe country for them to reside in.
